Dogs with straighter shoulders, will have good jump height but land harder when jumping as they are landing on straighter legs and have less angle in the joints to act as shock absorbers. The higher impact when landing makes the straight shoulder assembly more prone to injury.

Dogs with shorter bone not only means less muscle, but also shorter muscle which means that the muscle generates less power.

Straighter shoulders with shorter muscles may cause tension in the neck musculature as these dogs tend to carry their neck higher.

Well angulated shoulders have good proportion between the shoulder blade (scapular) and forearm (humerus).

They can:

absorb shock better

have a longer stride with their front legs

generate more power as they generally have more muscle

have fewer back and neck problems

are able to turn better

All these things are super for overall performance.

Rear Angulation

We know that the rear end is important for power and forward propulsion. structure” but that doesn’t mean that your dog is poorly structured.

Great sporting dogs come in all shapes and sizes and many dogs come from breeds that were bred with particular jobs in mind.

We are looking for balance between front and rear angulation simply because this helps the better coordinated movements, which in turn will have a positive impact on sporting performances and lower the risks of injury.

Most of your dog’s structure is genetic, but we can still help our dogs to improve their posture and therefore structure. When muscles are weak, dogs hold themselves up on their bones causing bones to lie more directly above one another, giving a straighter appearance and they will lose their angles. If we increase their muscle mass and strengthen these areas, the muscles help support the joints and we may notice better angulation.

It is important to know your dog’s body so we can target their weaknesses and make these areas stronger. It helps us train more appropriately so that our dogs experience better competition performance, avoid injury and have a longer and healthier life.

Take some photos of your dogs and determine their front and rear angulation.

You will be happy to discover some hidden information that your dog’s body is telling you.

["post-9540","tva_lesson","type-tva_lesson","status-publish","hentry","tva_courses-bk-9-foundational-strength-program","post-wrapper","thrv_wrapper
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
